  2. Which address can I send my License /Renewal/ Application Package to?

    You can send any correspondence to either office address listed above.
     

  3. Where do I park at when I go to the Las Vegas Office?

    Park across the street in the Silver City parking lot. There is a parking garage if you choose to park there, but we do not validate parking. Parking in the garage is $1.00 for every 30 minutes.
     

  4. How do I check on the status of my application?

    In order to check the status of your application, you can email us at nvmassagebd@state.nv.us or fax us at (775) 786-4264. Include a return fax number or we will mail your status check by way of U.S. Postal Service. Allow a minimum of 24 to 48 hours for a response. Status checks will not be given over the phone.
     

  5. I have my Nevada State Board of Massage Therapist license. Do I need any other licenses to do massage in Nevada?

    Contact your local jurisdiction where you do business to find out the requirements for business licensing.
     

  6. Who does not have to be licensed under the Nevada State Massage Therapy Law?

    NRS640C.100 lists those who are exempt from obtaining a license. Please refer to this section for a list of those who are not required to have a Nevada State Massage Therapy License.
     

  7. Why must I obtain a Nevada State Board of Massage Therapists license?

    NRS640C.400 requires you to have a license. The license will be valid throughout the State of Nevada and you will not have to go through multiple background investigations when you obtain your license. The public concerns regarding health, safety and welfare will be met by the licensing and regulating of massage therapists and you will be perceived as a professional. You will be regulated by your peers.
     

  8. I missed the Grandfathering Period, how do I get my State license?

    You will have to apply as a new applicant. Download the application for “State Massage Application” under the FORMS tab, and follow the instructions on the first two pages.
     

  9. Why can I not still grandfather in?

    Under AB250 Sec. 56 which created the Massage Board, states that the grandfathering period will end after June 30, 2007. This is not reversible by the Massage Board.
     

  10. How do I obtain an application?

    Click the FORMS tab above, and then select the State Massage License Application. Follow the instructions and return to our office.
     

  11. How long will it take for me to have my license in hand after I apply?

    Licensing may take up to 3 to 5 months due to the background investigation process.
     

  12. How many hours of schooling do I need to become licensed in the State of Nevada?

    You will have to complete a course in massage therapy of at least 500 hours.
     

  13. What test do I need to take in order to get a license?

    We require that you take and pass the National Certification Exam of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB), the National Certification Exam of Therapeutic Massage (NCETM), or National Exam for State Licensure (NESL). In order to take this test, you will need to contact the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). We have a link to their website on our main page.
     

  14. When applying for my license can I send in my transcripts?
    Yes, but you will need to contact your school and have them send your transcripts directly to our office also or you may bring your transcripts to our office in a sealed envelope from the school.
     

  15. What if I cannot obtain my original transcripts or my school is no longer in business?

    You will need to contact the Commission on Postsecondary Education in the State which you went to school. They should have your transcripts on file. If after checking with the Commission on Postsecondary Education and they do not have your transcripts then contact our office in writing by email

  16. I mailed in the Temporary Application for a TEMP license, when will I receive it?

    A Temporary License is sent out 45 days from the date your completed Temporary Application is received in our office. If you send in the Temporary Application after your original application, the 45 day countdown will start when we received your Temporary Application and not from the date we received your original application.
     

  17. I am transferring my license from another state. Do I need to send in fingerprint cards if I am getting my Licensing Authority (State or Local) to sign-off on the Certified Statement from State Licensing Authority?

    No, you do not need to submit fingerprint cards or the $125.00 FBI/State fingerprinting fee.
     

  18. Where do I get my fingerprinting done?

    There is a list of places on pages 11 and 12 in your application packet.
     

  19. How long does it take to process the fingerprints?

    It may take up to 3 to 5 months for us to receive the results of your background check.
     

  20. What is ‘administratively complete’?

    An application must be ‘administratively complete’ before the Board Office will review and rule on the application. In order to be considered ‘administratively complete’ the Board must have received a completed application form, a fingerprint report from the Department of Public Safety and the FBI (if applicable), and all required supporting documentation and fees. The Board will then process the application.
     

  21. How long does it take to process my renewal?

    The processing of all renewals takes 10 to 15 business days and renewals are processed in the order they are received.
     

  22. Can I pick my license up in the office?

    Unfortunately, no.
     

  23. Can you overnight my license to me?

    Unfortunately, no.
     

  24. How many Continuing Education Hours (C.E.H.) do I need to renew my license?

    You will need 12 C.E.H. to renew your license. We will roll over up to 36 C.E.H. over a 3 year period. For example, if you acquired 48 C.E.H. after you first received your State License, 12 C.E.H. will be applied to this year’s renewal and 36 C.E.H. carried over the next 3 years.
     

  25. I took some classes two years ago; may I apply these C.E.H.’s to my renewal?

    No, the only Continuing Education Hours (C.E.H.) that will be accepted, are those that you acquired after receiving your Nevada State License.
     

  26. What classes can I take to fulfill my C.E.H. requirements?

    Please refer to the Continuing Education Information link under the Bulletins section.
     

  27. Do we have to submit the original copy of our C.E.H. Certificate?

    Yes we prefer the original. If you don’t want to send the original you must send a certified/notarized copy.
     

  28. What does certified / notarized copy mean?

    You must take your originals to a notary and have the original copy notarized.
     

  29. How many Ethic Hours do I need for my renewal?

    Currently, we do not have category requirements to fulfill. However, they will be accepted if submitted. Please read Continuing Education Hours Instruction on the Renewal Instruction form.
     

  30. I do not have the required CEH’s for my renewal. What can I do?

    We do not recommend or endorse any providers, but you can locate some approved courses at the following websites.

  31. When do I need to download a continuing education form?

    If you obtained C.E.H.s that are not certified by the NCBTMB, approved by the Commission on Postsecondary Education, or taken at an institution of higher learning and/or within the University system. You will find the CEH forms under the forms tab.
     

  32. May I put the letters L.M.T. (Licensed Massage Therapist) or M.T. (Massage Therapist) after my name?

    Under NRS 640C.910 - Only if you are a Nevada State Licensed Massage Therapist.
     

  33. What is the proper term to use in order to describe my profession and the business I work in?

    If you are Nevada State Licensed, PLEASE refer to yourself as a massage therapist, and to your business as a massage establishment.
     

  34. How do I file a complaint?

    Please download the Complaint Form (pdf) under the FORMS tab above. In order to take action, we will need this form to be completed thoroughly.
     

  35. I lost my license, how do I get another one?

    Download the Duplicate License Affidavit under the FORMS tab. Please read instructions, complete the form and send to our office with the appropriate fee.
     

  36. I got married (divorced) and want my name changed on my license, what do I do?

    Download the Duplicate License Affidavit (pdf) under the FORMS tab. Please read instructions, complete the form and send to our office with the appropriate fee.
     

  37. I moved and want my address changed on my license, what do I do?

    Download the Duplicate License Affidavit (pdf) under the FORMS tab. Please read instructions, complete the form and send to our office with the appropriate fee.
     

  38. I moved but I don’t want to change the address on my license. What do I need to do?

    Please send your new mailing address to our office via email, fax or U.S. Mail.  A change of address form (pdf) can be found on the Forms tab.
     

  39. Can I submit my CEH’s from last year for this year?

    NO. All credits in excess must be submitted at the time of the renewal in the year in which the CEH’s were taken. (eg. Renewal period March 1, 2008- February 28, 2009. All CEH’s taken between March 1, 2007 – February 28, 2008 must be submitted at that time to be counted for rollover). You have until your expiration date to submit CEH’s to be used for rollover.
     

  40. I want to take some time off from practicing massage, what should I do?

    Your license must be current when you email, fax or mail a letter stating that you wish to have your license put on inactive status. At that point, you have exactly 1 year to bring your license current. The fee is $100.00 plus the renewal fee which is currently $150.00. If you fail to reactivate after 1 year, you must apply as a new applicant.
     

  41. My license expired last month. How long do I have to renew?

    Your license can be expired up to 12 months. After your license has been expired for 12 months, you must apply as a new applicant. Under NRS 640C.910 you may not work on an expired license.
     

  42. I am transferring my license from another state. Do I still have to take the National Exam?

    Yes, you will need have taken and passed any of the exams given from NCBTMB or the MBLex.
     

  43. I have taken the MBlex exam. What do I need to do to get licensed in Nevada?

    You will need to submit your completed application.  Your application will have to go before a Board Review to be approved. This will extend the processing time of your application.
     

  44. I want to do massages from my home. Is this legal?

    You will need to check with your local jurisdiction where you are practicing. They may have business licensing laws that prohibit this from occurring.
     

  45. Is cross gender massage legal in Nevada?

    Cross gender massage is legal in the State of Nevada.
       Clark County changed their code March of 2009
       City of Las Vegas changed their code September of 2008
     

  46. I work for the chiropractor. Do I still need a Massage Therapists License or can I practice under the chiropractor?

    Yes you need a Nevada State Massage Therapists license. You cannot practice under anyone’s license.
     

  47. I am trying to print a renewal form from your website. Where is it?

    Renewal forms are not available online. Renewal forms are mailed out approximately 90 days prior to the expiration of your license. Please contact our office if you wish to receive a renewal form.
     

  48. Can I take my photo myself and make it 2x2?

Yes you can but please make sure that it is a clear background showing head and shoulders and printed on photo paper. See the link for more clarification.
